SECONDARY LEVEL ART

Ceramics (One Year Course)

 

This is a beginning course which encourages the technical and aeshetic exploration of the ceramics medium.  Students will participate in a wide variety of experiences designed to create a sense of accomplishment and develop basic skills in controlling ceramic forms.  Students will study the historical and cultural developments in the field of ceramics.  Prerequisites are the Dimensional and Design Course and permission of the instructor.

 

I. ARTISTIC PERCEPTION

To learn to recognize forms when they are encountered and to appreciate design elements of shape, texture, and form.

 

II. CREATIVE EXPRESSION

To develop basic skills in the hand‑forming and shell‑forming of clay.  Students will demonstrate the ability to see and use design elements of form and texture.  Students will recognize their own individuality and respect the individuality of others.

 

III. HlSTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXT

To increase the student awareness of the role of ceramics in art and industry and develop a knowledge of historical and cultural ceramics development.

 

IV. AESTHETIC VALUING--Analysis, Interpretation, Judgment

Develop the knowledge and respect necessary to make aesthetic judgments and interpretations.

 

V. CONNECTlONS, RELATlONS, APPLICATlONS

1.       Identify connections and relationships between visual arts and other arts disciplines.

2.       Apply knowledge and skills learned in visual arts to enhance learning outside the arts.
