The desire to be an artist has been a dream
that Lila Jamison has pursued since she was a little
girl doing pencil sketches of fantasy horses. She regrets never
having had the time or money to pursue a formal education in
art. There were a few classes that she was able to attend at
Mendocino College in the early 80's.
Lila's education, what she refers to as "hands-on experience,"
growing up and living the majority of her life on cattle ranches
and in rural areas, has been a great asset to her painting.
Lila says, "The lifestyle and heritage of my family and
friends who were ranchers, hunters, miners and loggers in Mendocino
and Trinity counties, offers me a great visionary palette that
is always available in my memories and photos."

Lila's subject matter for her paintings range
from still lifes to landscapes, from wildlife studies to pets
portraits, from roundup scenes on the ranch to portraits of friends
and family, including beautiful paintings of some of the local
Native American Indians here in Round Valley. Lila says, "I
have always felt a strong bond with the North American Indians.
From as long as I can remember, I have been friends with the Indian
people. Living close to the Indians has given me an awareness
of what this great country was and what we all are losing."

Living with a disability prevents
Lila from doing many things she has always loved doing, such as
horseback riding and helping out on the ranch. However, she's
thankful she can paint, and she says "painting helps me keep
in touch with who I am and where I came from. My paintings come
from my heart and soul."

Lila works in watercolors, acrylics, pencil,
and mixed media. She often likes to paint from photographs that
she has taken. She sets up her own still life subjects. She has
painted portraits, people and pets, on a commission basis, and
would accept any challenge.
Lila says " Feel free to contact me if I can be of any help
to you."
