Frequently Asked Questions About Covelo.net

What is Covelo.net?
Covelo.net is a community website dedicated to celebrating
the diversity of Round Valley and its environment.
How Does It Work?
Covelo.net is operated just like a community newspaperonly
it online. We have an owner, editor, and we hire staff for extra help.
Whats the Mission of
Covelo.net?
The mission of Covelo.net is to showcase the talents
and achievements of the people of Round Valley and to act as a reservoir of
information for the learning and enrichment of our local residents as well as
our virtual tourists. Covelo.net also hopes to serve as a platform for cooperation
and cohesion within the Round Valley community.
Does Covelo.net Have an Editorial
Policy or Code of Ethics?
Yes, just like a community newspaper we adhere to a
code of ethics familiar to journalists. Our reports are always truthful, fair,
and unbiased. We also have a policy of full inclusion, that is, we offer every
member of the community an opportunity to be represented, whether they are a
organization, business, or individual.
Does Covelo.net Accept
Submissions from the Community?
Yes, we eagerly encourage unsolicited reports, photographs,
essays, poems, and works of art that any community member wishes to post, as
long as they meet basic standards in quality and fairness and are appropriate
to our mission. We cannot pay for these submissions and reserve the rights to
exercise editorial discretion.
Is Covelo.net an ISP (Internet
Service Provider)?
No. We do have the capacity to operate as an ISP, that
is, provide services such as internet dialup and email accounts. We do not now
have the equipment or staff to run an ISP. Perhaps sometime in the future.
Who Helps With Covelo.net?
Many of our community members have contributed to Covelo.net.
Without their help the site would not be as attractive or inclusive as it is
today. The following is a list of former or current staff who have worked or
are working at Covelo.net:
Reporters: Lois Karel-Barr, Maria Collins, Kelley Gruey, Bobby Wilson.
Artists /Web Designers: Pete Collins, Bear Kauffman, David Smith, Mike Smith, and Marjo Wilson.
Anyone interested in helping should contact Covelo.net.
How is Covelo.net Funded?
Covelo.net has been fortunate to receive some funds
through the school district from the California Department of Education to develop
the artists pages. In all other respects, however, Covelo.net has been
operating in the red since it was first on-line. The costs of hosting and maintaining
the site varies from year to year, but generally runs from $600 to $1,200 a
year. These include the ISP hosting fees, plus software, cameras, and paid staff.
In order to stay active and on-line, Covelo.net will need to find new sources
of revenue. Just as a local newspaper, we hope to sustain our efforts through
two traditional sources: annual subscription fees and advertising.
Annual Fees:
Due to the financial needs of Covelo.net, starting in July, 2002, we will ask
organizations and businesses to
contribute a small annual fee. See chart below:

Have Pages Be Asked to Pay a Fee?
No. As of July 1st any organization which currently
has a page will not be charged this annual fee for past services. However, when
a change is proposed the fee will be requested. Starting in January of 2003
all businesses (but not non-profit organizations) will be asked to contribute.
Will Businesses Be Able
to Advertise?
